Black History | Art | Culture Pop-up Museum

Call to Participate

To commemorate Black History Month 2023, Jacksonville University's Carl S. Swisher Library, in partnership with the College of Arts and Sciences, will host the Black History | Art | Culture Pop-up Museum. To be installed throughout the library's halls and common areas, locally-based museums, historical societies, cultural organizations, and artists are invited to exhibit interpretations of Northeast Florida's Black past and present.

Accepted Mediums: Any 2-D or 3-D creation that can be displayed on easels, tables, artist-provided portable walls, freestanding, or leaned on or affixed to walls using non-damaging methods (e.g. 3M Command strips). A limited number of pedestals, display cases, tables/tablecloths, and easels are available at the discretion of Jacksonville University library staff.

Entry Requirements:

  1. Cover letter to include artist statement or organization mission statement, a brief artist bio or organization history, and description of proposed art piece(s) or exhibit to be installed.
  2. Digital images in JPEG format of the proposed art piece(s) or exhibit.
  3. Addendum signature page. There is no submission fee. See addendum for detailed submission instructions.

Entries Due: Monday, January 16, 2023.
Entrants will be notified of a decision on or before Friday, January 20, 2023.
