U.S. Government Documents Collection
The Carl S. Swisher Library is a selective depository library of the Depository Library Program of the U.S. Government Printing Office. The government documents collection is maintained separately from other library collections and uses the Superintendent of Documents classification system. Documents are accessible through the library catalog and online resources produced by the Government Printing Office and other federal agencies.
Federal documents are maintained in accordance with 44 USC 1901-1916, Instructions to Depository Libraries, Administrative Notes, and other rules and regulations issued by the U.S. Congress Joint Committee on Printing and/or the Superintendent of Documents.
Florida Documents Collection
The library is a depository for State of Florida documents selected as depository items by the State Library of Florida. The collection is maintained separately from other library collections using a unique alphanumeric system based on the issuing agency.
Florida documents are maintained according to Florida Statutes, Chapter 257.05 and corresponding references in the Florida Administrative Code.
Access to Documents
The Carl S. Swisher Library is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by public law (Title 44 United States Code). Government documents are available for use by Jacksonville University students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as the general public in compliance with federal requirements.
Public Access to Campus
Visitors coming to the University are required to request a one-day visitor parking permit from the Campus Security Department located at the Green Street Entrance to the University. These permits are free of charge to visitors.
Visitors are permitted to park in Lot I, the general parking area, as well as designated visitor parking spaces. Please refer to the Campus Parking Map (PDF) to find these locations.
Access to Print Documents
Print government documents are located on the lower level of the library. Handicap visitors should request to use the elevator at the circulation desk to access these documents.
Current students, faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff of JU have borrowing privileges at the Swisher Library. A valid Dolphin 1Card is required to check out materials. Your Dolphin 1Card is your Library card. To obtain a new Dolphin 1Card, contact Campus Security.
Public users may view print government documents in house. Users wishing to check out materials should request the item via interlibrary loan through their local library.
Access to Electronic Documents
Current students, faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff of JU may utilize their JU credentials to log in to library computers. Electronic documents can be located through the library’s catalog, as well as by utilizing the resources in the FDLP Basic Collection. Printing and copying is available to current students, faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff of JU in the IT-maintained computer lab on the main level of the Library. JU affiliated users can pay for prints using Dolphin Dollars. The Library does not accept any other form of payment for printing and copying.
Public access to electronic government documents is available utilizing select catalog computers. Public users should sign in at the circulation desk in order to gain access to these resources. Electronic documents can be located through the library’s catalog, as well as by utilizing the resources in the FDLP Basic Collection. Printing and copying is available to the general public by utilizing the Print Shop located in the Founders Building.
