Model Rules of Professional Conduct

On the American Bar Association website, the Rules are found by searching for Model Rules of Professional Conduct. The ABA website has so much more beyond the text of the Rules. The ABA also provides podcasts of selected Rules, official comments of the Rules, and links to additional Model Rules resources. It is very comprehensive and a place to start.

The Model Rules of Professional Conduct are found in a few places. In Lexis+ and Westlaw Precision, the Rules are found by searching for ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and Code of Judicial Conduct. The Westlaw and Lexis annotated versions provide links to cases and analysis of the Rules.

Model Code of Judicial Conduct

The Model Code of Judicial Conduct, also known as the Model Code, is tested on the MPRE. These are the ethical rules that judges must abide by while on the bench.

Florida Bar Ethics Page

The Florida Bar Ethics page has links to advisory opinions, articles on ethics opinions, FAQ's and the Rules Regulating the Florida Bar (PDF document) - Rules of Professional Conduct.

CALI Lessons

Computer Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI) has several interactive tutorials on Professional Responsibility including Judicial Ethics, Client or Not, Sources of Law Regulating the Practice of Law and questions on the Model Rules of Professional Conduct just to name a few. The lessons average about 30-45 minutes and there are currently fourteen lessons available.

Please see a librarian if you need a CALI code to log in.

Signing Up for the MPRE

It is important to register for the MPRE as soon as possible since it is only offered three times a year in March, August and November. Registering early is additionally important if you require testing accommodations as the accommodations will have to be approved prior to taking the exam. Early registration is key.
