What is a DOI?

DOI stands for Digital Object Identifier.  Look for the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) when searching for electronic database articles.  Be sure to include the DOI at the end of your article citation.  If no DOI is given, “provide the home page URL of the journal or of the book” publisher.

Helpful Information

  • For the article title, capitalize only the first word of the article title and subtitle as well as any proper nouns.
  • For the journal title, capitalize all the significant words as periodical titles are considered proper nouns.
  • If no date is given, use (n.d.)
  • If issue number not listed, skip.
  • Double space entries. If an entry runs more than one line, indent the next line(s)
  • If what you are citing is not listed in APA manual, choose example in manual most like your source.
