Principles of Service

We are a service-oriented library. Every user should have a great experience wherever they start in the library.

We should strive to meet users’ needs in a timely manner.

We should aim to provide services that meet users’ needs and be readily available for assistance

Circulation Desk Standards

Never leave the desk unattended - no exceptions.

Schoolwork or browsing the web is fine

◦Use library computer
*Do not use personal devices
◦No watching movies or listening to music
◦Nothing that requires concentration where you can not immediately switch back to assisting patrons

Present a professional image

◦No food at the desk
*Drinks in a closed containers are fine
◦No headphones
◦No cell phone usage

Phone System

Phone Etiquette:

  • Answer within three rings
  • JU Library, how may I help you?
  • Ask for their name
  • Help if they’ve reached the wrong number
  • Use hold button
  • Transfer if they need someone on campus
  • Never hang up without answering their question
