Interlibrary Loan

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary loan (or ILL) is a free service through which Swisher Library borrows materials from other institutions on your behalf. No library can own everything, so ILL is designed to supplement library resources through relationships with other libraries around the world. Please remember that books, articles, and other items are sent to us from other libraries, including out of state. Processing and transit time mean that items are not available the same day. However, ILL can be a powerful tool with a little planning!

The ILL service is free and is available to all current JU students, faculty, and staff. ILL requests are not processed during University breaks, closures, or holidays.

You can submit an ILL request using the form below, or explore this guide for more information on what can be requested, how to request while searching, and more.

Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.  One of these specified conditions is that the copy is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.  If a user makes requests for, or later uses, a copy for purposes in excess of fair use that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

No further reproduction or distribution of this copy is permitted.

Swisher Library reserves the right to refuse to accept an interlibrary loan request if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the request would involve violation of copyright law.

This notice is posted in compliance with Title 37 C.F.R., Chapter II, Part 201.14.

For more information, see Swisher Library's guide to Copyright and Fair Use and JU's website on Intellectual Property.

Patron Responsibility Notice

By requesting physical items, the patron accepts responsibility for materials from the point of pick up until its physical return to library staff.  This includes any late fines, processing fees, or replacement costs that may result from lost or late items.  Patrons agree to use materials, physical or electronic, in accordance with applicable copyright laws and university policies.
